Jun 2024- Maxton's Hot Fitting Tips

Still not convinced by our previous blog post detailing our fitting service? We’ve put together a list of Hot Tips for those of you who are wanting to fit the parts yourselves. These will save you time and make your life a lot easier when visually upgrading your car with Maxton Design styling parts.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Front Splitters experience some serious downforce when driving at high speeds. Here at Maxton, we always recommend following speed limits, obviously. However, we highly advise positioning the fittings at a maximum of 3cm away from the front of the product, with a distance of about 15-20cm between each fitment point where possible, to ensure that the fitting withstands the downforce.

At Maxton Design UK, we’ve noticed that some customers and body shops like to use self-tapping screws for installing parts. Sure, it’s a quick fix, but we highly advise against it when installing our Front Splitters. These screws just don’t offer enough security since they rely on the thread to hold the splitter in place. Whenever we hear about splitters coming loose, it’s almost always because self-tapping screws were used. Save yourself the hassle and go for a more secure installation method!

The next hot tip is extremely handy. 3M Tape and Primer not only adds extra security, but it also makes fitting Rear Diffusers so much easier. Of course, the hardware provided will be enough to install the product. However, using the 3M Primer does bring benefits. It activates the 3M tape on the product straight away, allowing the car to bounce back into action immediately without having to wait for the tape to bond. This also means that the product will be held in place while you install any additional fixings, if required.

Finally, our last hot tip is for fitting our Spoiler Caps. These are probably our simplest product to install anyway, however this tip will make your life even easier.

Once you have offered the part to the car and found the correct position, use a few strips of masking tape to mark exactly where the Cap sits, as you will have to remove the product to reveal the 3M Tape. Once you remove the protective layer of the tape, you’ll know exactly where the product needs to sit.

Again, in our fitting bay, we apply 3M Primer to the fitment area before attaching the Spoiler Cap.
