Jul 2024 - Body Kit FAQs

Being the UK’s market leader in automotive body kits, it’s only natural that we receive lots of questions about the nature of car styling. In this blog, we’ll explore some of the common questions we receive.

What is a body kit?

An automotive body kit is a collection of modifications that are installed to the exterior of a car. Body kits often include components like spoilers, side skirt diffusers, front and rear bumpers, along with a range of various other upgrades.

Here at Maxton, our primary ‘full-kit’ consists of a Front Splitter, Side Skirt Diffusers, Rear Side Splitters, a Rear Diffuser and a Spoiler Cap.

What are the benefits of a body kit?

The most common reason that car enthusiasts buy body kits is to enhance the appearance of their car. They can be used to add a lower and wider look to the car to improve it’s ‘stance’ and allow the driver to create a custom look for their prized possession.

Body kits are also proven to have aerodynamic properties by creating additional downforce when on the road. This forces the car downwards onto the surface, providing better grip and improving handling.

Are body kits universal?

There are a lot of universal products on the market. This does bring benefits, as the product is not tied to one specific model of car, and you don’t have to worry about compatibility issues. However, a body kit that does not perfectly follow the shape of the car won’t look aesthetically pleasing, which is not what any car enthusiast wants.

At Maxton Design, we use advanced 3D Scanning technology to create products that align seamlessly with the OEM shape of the car. This ensures a perfect fit against the car’s body, enhancing the overall appearance and preventing issues that can arise from poorly fitting kits. Wind pockets at high speeds can create extra pressure on the modifications, posing a risk to both you and other drivers.

How are body kits installed?

Fitment methods can differ significantly between manufacturers. Some products are designed for straightforward, quick installation, while others might need more preparation. At Maxton Design, we recommend drilling into the car’s body to ensure our body kits are securely fitted. For instance, our Front Splitters come with nuts and bolts, whereas our Side Skirt Diffusers include self-tapping screws.

Will a body kit void warranty on my car?

Before installing a body kit on your vehicle, we strongly advise reviewing the terms and conditions of your contract or warranty. Exterior modifications could potentially affect specific aspects of your warranty coverage.
